Late last summer we visited our Clyde Hill project and marveled at how much plants can grow in just one season. For this garden we followed the clean lines of the home to keep with the modern architecture and designed the plantings to have structure yet still overflow just enough.

Our task for our Mercer Island project was to transform an unloved back yard into a setting fit for an intimate summer wedding. We designed and planted a full, layered garden and created two new functional areas — a fire pit hangout inside a stone enclosure and a seating moment with some storybook faux bois furniture.

This beautiful container is the perfect anchor piece in the fully renovated backyard of our Mercer Island project. We love the structure and elegance it brings to the space.

Broadmoor Tudor before and after Part II: Similar to this lovely home’s front yard in the previous post, the 35-year-old arborvitae hedge and garden was overgrown and detracting from the special architecture. We removed the unhealthy hedge and plants encroaching on the walls and windows so the home could breathe. To create separation from the golf course while maintaining the newly open feel, we designed and installed a repeating series of low steel panels that tie the landscape to the home by incorporating one of the Tudor timber motifs. A pair of standard Limelight hydrangeas flank a bluestone path to the golf course and copper path lights with a new planting plan round out the design.

Broadmoor Tudor before and after: This lovely 1920’s home was being overwhelmed by the former landscape. We had to peel back a lot of layers before we could see the canvas and begin the restoration. In addition to a full new planting plan, to help create structure without adding maintenance, we designed and commissioned a forged sculpture for the wall leading to the front door. We also installed two large statement planters to anchor and highlight the beautiful leaded glass bay window.
